Southern 630 & 4501: Doubleheading to Georgia
On June 1, 2024, Southern Railway 630 & 4501 teamed up to lead the first Summerville Steam Special of the year from the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee along the former Central of Georgia line to Summerville, Georgia. At Summerville, they picked up caboose X252 which resulted in some interesting switching moves and an unusual consist for the northbound journey.
My camera died at the start of the day - I think due to an old, degraded battery - so this video had to be shot entirely on my iPhone. I'm glad I opted for the Pro model, it's really come in clutch for me this year.

2022. I caught 25 new locos that year, 17 of them during one week in the UK.

I was totally on that train. You filmed in two of the same spots that I was standing at, but I didn't see myself. I recorded 630 and 4501 running light at Summerville and then Chattanooga at the very end of the trip. I was also in the photo line at Rock Springs on the other side of the track. If you remember anybody really tall with brown, slightly graying hair, that was me.

It's a Virginia and Southwestern 3 chime. Similar to a Ps-4 whistle.
@@radforddivisionrailfan I could tell it was a three chime, however, when it comes to identifying whistles, that’s one of my weak points, unless it’s something like distinctive, like a hooter whistle.
Oh yeah, I understand. I've spent a lot of time learning about whistles. It's definitely come in handy for many conversations.
Funny thing about the V&SW is that it’s basically a Ps-4 whistle modified to fit on a Nathan 6 chime bowl.
I dont think I would send such a priceless steam engine down to Mexico. We all know weird shit happens south of the border.

Good for you. You're sure lucky to have seen Empress 2816 for the first time up close and train chasing. You never get a scene like that. It's not every day a steam locomotive from Canada would cross down through the states. This is her first time through the whole USA on her way to Mexico. I, for one wanted to go see 2816 for myself in Shreveport but due to rough weather no way, hopefully she'll come back and this time visit Tx, Dallas to be precise. But all and all great job documenting CPR 2816's journey through the US. And BTW, top-notch job on the narration. Is this your first time narrating? I'm just asking.

Great video on 2816. I originally had plans to see her when she stopped in St Paul, MN, but due to work, my sister's birthday, college, and the book I'm writing, I was unable. I still want to see the engine myself, though I have a feeling it won't be anytime soon.
Sorry you missed her, she'll be passing through the area again on her way home in a few weeks.
